My name is Amanda MacDonald, and I am completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. With over 20 years dedicated to supporting children and families, I have cultivated a deep passion for helping individuals unlock their inner potential and overcome life’s challenges.
My journey in the helping profession began in the education system. I have been an educator and, most recently, a Program Planning Specialist with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. These roles have equipped me with a unique perspective on human development and the diverse needs of individuals across life stages.
I am committed to empowering my clients through evidence-based practices tailored to their individual needs. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) while also incorporating elements of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and always from a person-centred approach. I believe in creating a collaborative, therapeutic environment where clients can use their strengths and develop practical strategies for growth.
I am particularly passionate about working with adolescents, young adults, and families, including parent coaching and life transitions. I also love to work one-on-one to help clients develop resilience, enhance coping skills, and achieve greater self-empowerment. I provide a holistic approach to mental health and personal growth by combining my educational background with my current counselling skills.
As an intern, I offer in-person and virtual sessions for $75/hour. I am committed to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their feelings and work toward meaningful change.
