Dr. Claire O’Donovan

MD, FRCPC, Psychiatrist

Dr. Claire O’Donovan has been a practicing psychiatrist in Nova Scotia for over 20 years and has been acknowledged as a strong clinician by the inaugural “Outstanding Clinician Award” in the Department of Psychiatry. She has extensive experience in general mental health, with special expertise in mood disorders and the wide range of mental health disorders in the military, Veterans, and RCMP.

Dr. O’Donovan has worked in the Nova Scotia Health Authority at the general outpatient clinic, at the specialty Mood Disorders clinic, and the Department of National Defense at Stadacona Hospital. She has been Director of Ambulatory care, Co-founder and Director of the bipolar clinic, Director of Mood disorders at Dalhousie /QEII. She was Director of General Medical Health at Stadacona Hospital from 1999-2004, having set up the program on behalf of Dalhousie University Department of Psychiatry in 1999. She worked there part-time almost continuously until 2020.

Dr. O’Donovan continues to work at the Mood Disorder Clinic at the NSHA/Dalhousie Department of Psychiatry and is actively involved in clinical care, teaching and research as well as in National/International guidelines. Above all, Dr. O’Donovan is a clinical psychiatrist who enjoys working with patients, their families, and team colleagues collaboratively
