Payroll Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Coordinator to help support our Finance Team. This is a position with plenty of growth for the right candidate looking to move into a lead role in payroll processing.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees and staff. This role involves maintaining payroll records, calculating wages, and ensuring compliance with all applicable Canadian laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all salaried, hourly, and contracted staff in an accurate and timely manner, including calculating wages, overtime, and deductions
- Ensure all payroll-related paperwork (tax forms, benefits deductions, etc.) is accurately completed
- Prepare payroll reports and compensation reports, post payroll journal entries in QuickBooks
- Complete and issue Records of Employments (ROE) in accordance with Service Canada requirements and maintain a record of all ROE numbers
- Prepare and reconcile T4s and T4As
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with company policies and Canadian legal requirements.
- Act as the first point of contact for manager inquiries around payroll
- Collaborate with the HR and Finance departments to ensure accurate employee data and payroll processing
- Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance
- Support the company with special projects and audits as needed
- Other tasks as needed, including training and professional development
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 1-2 years Canadian payroll experience paired with relevant post-secondary education
- Payroll certification (PCP and/or CPM) is ideal
- Excellent MS Office skills including advanced Excel knowledge, Pivot Tables, LOOKUPS
- Data entry experience
- Ability to understand and manage responsibilities in a multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to recognize and respond to problems and find solutions
- Ability to work independently and effectively on multiple tasks and projects
- Perform professional level tasks requiring independent judgement, initiative and tact
- Experience with end-to-end complex payroll processing in multi-jurisdictions in Canada would be a significant asset
- Understanding of managing workload and working with tight deadlines. Can do attitude to get the job done.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays to meet tight deadlines.
- Ownership of workload
